The mercury has been rising in Nepal of late, with particularly high heat in the Terai and Madhesh regions.
Meteorologists say dry weather conditions are to blame for rising temperatures in the western Terai (Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces). The increasing heat is starting to affect daily life.
In particular, the cities of Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, and Dhangadhi are experiencing intense heat. According to the latest measurements, the maximum temperature in Bhairahawa reached 41.3°C, in Dhangadhi 40.8°C, and in Nepalgunj 40°C. As there is no chance of rain for the next three days or so, the temperatures may continue to rise.
Meteorologist Govinda Jha from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said temperatures will continue to soar in the Terai and other regions for the next few days. He also warned that heat waves could occur, advising people to stay cautious.
Today (April 23), most of the country has clear weather, including Kathmandu Valley, where the sun is shining. The local and western winds are having a partial effect, according to the department of meteorology and hydrology.
The department predicts that in the afternoon, the weather will be partly cloudy in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces, while the rest of the country will remain clear. There is also a possibility of light rain with thunder and lightning in one or two places in Koshi and Gandaki provinces in the afternoon.
Tonight, the weather will be partly cloudy in the hilly areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces, while the rest of the country will have clear skies.
