The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has accused the government of breaking a major agreement and warned it may restart protests if promises are not kept.
In a statement on Wednesday, NMA General Secretary Dr. Sanjiv Tiwari said the government has not acted on a three-point deal signed on July 8. The deal, made with the involvement of three cabinet ministers and approved by the Prime Minister, promised to form a task force within seven days to suggest legal and policy changes. But according to the NMA, nothing has been done so far.
“The task force is inactive, and even past promises by top officials were not kept,” the statement said. The NMA added that trust in the government is fading and that it will no longer accept verbal or written promises without real action.
The NMA also called on all concerned parties to take the issue seriously. It warned that if forced to protest again, this time it will be “stronger and more impactful.”
The NMA has been demanding the cancellation of a recent consumer court ruling that fined doctors and health institutions. It argues that such decisions harm the medical profession and could affect patient care.
