The Special Court has urged the government to closely monitor Nepal Airlines after finding corruption in the wide-body aircraft purchase case.
In its verdict, the court directed that the airline be provided with honest, capable staff and sufficient resources. It also stressed that future aircraft purchases must be handled responsibly by the management.
The court noted that irregularities by certain individuals had damaged the airline’s finances and reputation, stating that such actions must be punished under the law.
Out of 32 people charged by the anti-corruption body CIAA, only 10 were found guilty, including former board chair and Tourism Secretary Shankar Prasad Adhikari and MD Sugat Ratna Kansakar. Others, including the then Tourism Minister and many officials, were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
The court also reminded the government of the airline’s potential to contribute to the national economy and called for better oversight to prevent future losses.
