After months of uncertainty and hardship, five Nepali citizens who had been jailed in Iran for various reasons have finally returned home. Their release came after an Iranian court issued an order to free them, marking a moment of relief for their families and well-wishers in Nepal.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the rescue and return were made possible through the efforts of Nepal’s honorary consul in Tehran, along with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). These organizations coordinated the safe journey of the released Nepalis back to their homeland.

This is not the first time Nepalis have been rescued from Iran in recent months. Earlier, nine Nepali nationals were also brought back from Iran in three separate groups. They had been rescued with the help of the Indian government, using special flights arranged for Indian citizens.

The improved security situation in the region—following a ceasefire between Israel and Iran that took effect by June 23—created the right conditions to safely carry out these rescue missions.

The Government of Nepal has expressed its sincere gratitude to everyone involved for their active role, cooperation, and goodwill in helping bring its citizens home.
