Five Nepali Athletes to Compete in Asian Para Taekwondo Championship

Five Nepali athletes will represent the country in the 10th Asian Para Taekwondo Championship in Malaysia, competing in the K-44 category across different weight divisions.

Kathmandu District Taekwondo Association has bid farewell to a seven-member Nepali team, including five players, who will participate in the 10th Asian Para Taekwondo Championship (G4). The farewell program was held on Saturday in Thamel, Kathmandu.

The championship will be held in Kuching, Malaysia. All five athletes will compete on Shrawan 16 (Agust 1), and the team will leave for Malaysia on Shrawan 13 (July 29).

The Nepali athletes will compete in the K-44 category in different weight groups. Kabiraj Negi Lama, a successful para taekwondo coach, will lead the team as the head coach. Ram Chandra Shrestha is the team manager. Coach Lama said that this championship is important for improving the players’ rankings. Nepal has been regularly participating in this event since its beginning.

The team was given a warm send-off by President of the Education and Sports Committee of Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Rupak Rajbanshi, Vice President Sunita Singh, and President of the Kathmandu District Taekwondo Association, Bikram Khadka, among others.

During the event, Rajbanshi announced a cash support of Rs. 50,000 to encourage the team. On the same occasion, former taekwondo player Sumi Pariyar, currently living in the USA, provided tracksuits through the Lions Club of Kathmandu Taekwondo Nepal and Lions Club of Kathmandu Marigold. The Kathmandu District Taekwondo Association also provided T-shirts to the team.
