The President's Rule in India's northeastern state of Manipur has been extended for another six months. According to BBC, the new order will come into effect from August 13, 2025.

An official notice regarding this has been issued by the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of the Indian Parliament). The extension was approved under Article 356 of the Indian Constitution, which allows the central government to take control of a state if necessary.

Earlier, President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur after the then Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned from his post.

Since 2023, Manipur has been facing ethnic violence, especially between the Kuki and Meitei communities. Due to ongoing conflict, the state has been unable to maintain stability.

Many people have lost their lives and thousands have been displaced because of the violence. As the situation is still not fully under control, the Indian government decided to extend the President’s Rule.
