Border checkpoints in Baitadi and Darchula will be closed on July 24 and 28 due to Panchayat elections in India’s Uttarakhand state, with provisions for emergency access if needed.

Two major border points between Nepal and India, located in Baitadi and Darchula districts, will be temporarily closed due to the upcoming Panchayat elections in Uttarakhand, India.
The elections in Uttarakhand will be held in two phases, on July 24 and July 28. In response, the local authorities in Nepal have decided to shut the border crossings as a security measure.
According to Baitadi’s Chief District Officer, Punya Bikram Poudel, the Pulghat checkpoint in Darchula will be closed from the evening of July 21 until the morning of July 24.
Likewise, the Jhulaghat checkpoint in Baitadi will remain shut from the evening of July 25 until the morning of July 28.
CDO Poudel added that if any emergency situation arises during the closure, the checkpoints could be opened temporarily with the mutual agreement of authorities from both Nepal and India.
The temporary closure aims to ensure peaceful and secure elections in the bordering region of India.
