Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung, who also serves as the government spokesperson, has said that the government is conducting an investigation into individuals who traveled to Spain for a United Nations program but have not returned.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday at Singha Durbar, Minister Gurung clarified that these individuals were not officially listed in the government delegation. He said the investigation is focused on those who went outside the official process and failed to return after the event.
Addressing recent allegations, he dismissed claims that individuals accompanying Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli were intentionally left behind in Spain. He called such accusations baseless and misleading, stating that the Prime Minister followed proper diplomatic protocols.
“There are clear rules for high-level foreign visits,” Gurung said. “The President, Vice President, and Prime Minister cannot take more than 21 members in their official delegation, and that protocol was strictly followed.”
Gurung also noted that the lawmaker who raised the issue in Parliament has since clarified or retracted their statement, admitting that it may have been a misunderstanding.
He assured that the government is taking the matter seriously and appropriate action will be taken after the investigation is complete.
