Prime Minister Sushila Karki has hailed Nepal’s long-standing friendship with Australia, highlighting the country’s support for Nepal’s democratic and inclusive transformation. Speaking at a special reception hosted by the Australian Embassy in Kathmandu on Saturday, she emphasized that the bilateral relationship has strengthened over six decades, spanning key sectors such as education, trade, culture, and development.
During the event, Prime Minister Karki also launched a souvenir book, 65 Years Together, compiled by the Association of Nepalese Alumni from Australia, documenting the deep people-to-people connections between the two nations.
Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1960, the Nepali diaspora in Australia has grown significantly, contributing to Australia’s multicultural society while maintaining strong links with Nepal. Both countries also collaborate in regional and global platforms, including the UN, on issues like climate action, sustainable development, gender equality, and peacekeeping.
The Australian Embassy noted that the partnership continues to flourish, built on mutual respect, growing cultural exchanges, and a shared commitment to democratic values and global stability.
