Despite four months of the current fiscal year having passed, 24 local levels in Madhesh Province have yet to present their annual budgets. Nationwide, 728 local units have submitted their budgets, while 25, including one in Lumbini remain pending.
As mandated, local governments must table budgets by Asar 10, but only 112 of Madhesh’s 136 units have met the requirement. According to the Ministry of Federal Affairs, major municipalities still pending include Rajbiraj, Dhangadhimai, Sukhipur, Kshireswor, Nagarain, Malangwa, Hariban, and Mahagadhimai, among others.
One local level in Lumbini, Shuddhodhan Rural Municipality has also not presented its budget. Officials warn that prolonged delays may hinder development work and disrupt essential services.
