Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa said he has come to Madhesh to understand it closely and learn from it.
Speaking to voters in Sarlahi–4 on Monday, Thapa said he arrived in Madhesh after hearing about the region for a long time and now wants to connect with it personally.
He said he was happy to see the warm welcome he received from people of Madhesh at Simara Airport and other places. Thapa added that he has learned about the important role Madhesh has played in supporting the Nepali Congress and democracy.
Thapa said he plans to learn the language, traditions, culture, and civilization of Madhesh from now on.
He also mentioned that some colleagues suggested he start his speech in the local language. However, he said he does not want to do that just for show. “I will speak in the local language only after learning it properly,” he said.
Thapa shared that he has raised Madhesh-related issues in Parliament in the past and promised to focus more on the problems and concerns of Madheshi people in the future.
He said he came to Madhesh with the belief that one cannot fully understand Nepal without understanding Madhesh.
