The Israeli military announced on Monday that it has recovered the remains of 24-year-old Ran Gvili, a member of Israel Police’s elite Yasam patrol unit. Gvili was killed on October 7, 2023, and his body had been taken to Gaza.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told journalists that the Israeli army is returning to Israel with Gvili’s remains for funeral rites. In a statement, the military said that Gvili’s family was informed after the identification process was completed by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine.

The announcement came a day after Israel launched a large-scale operation to locate Gvili’s remains at a cemetery in northern Gaza based on intelligence information.

According to Hamas, all Israeli hostages, either alive or as remains, have been returned under the first phase of the ceasefire agreement that came into effect in October 2025, mediated by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt.
