On Monday, the National Assembly unanimously decided to send the Social Media Bill back to the government.

The Assembly’s Chairperson, Narayan Dahal, announced this decision during today’s session.

Tulsa Kumari Dahal, Chairperson of the Legislative Management Committee, had presented the committee’s report on the bill. The bill was first introduced in the National Assembly on August 29, 2025, and was sent to the committee for detailed discussion.

During the review, 35 Assembly members proposed a total of 155 amendments. Chairperson Dahal said that informal meetings were held with the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the ministry’s secretary, and other stakeholders at different stages.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology had officially asked the government to withdraw the bill on February 3 and issued formal instructions to return it on February 4.
