The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has banned celebrating Holi in public places and on open streets.

In a statement issued on Friday, the office informed that playing colors in public spaces during Fagu Purnima (Holi), which falls on Falgun 18, is prohibited.

The statement urged everyone to avoid unruly behavior that could affect public peace and security during the festival, including: creating noise or quarrels, consuming alcohol that disrupts family or social life, throwing colors or water at someone against their will, forcefully applying colors, or running around in an agitated manner.

In line with the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, section 4, clause 13 (g), ahead of the House of Representatives election on Falgun 21, anyone participating in rallies or gatherings or campaigning is prohibited from displaying or wearing election symbols or party logos on items such as stickers, clothing, caps, vests, T-shirts, jackets, shirts, scarves, badges, masks, lockets, or bags.

Furthermore, during Holi, the local administration has completely banned the use of clothing or items bearing political party symbols or candidates’ photographs, including vests, T-shirts, shirts, and scarves.
