Monsoon Still Weak; Rain and Storms Likely in Hilly and Terai Areas

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology says that the monsoon winds are still weak across the country. The monsoon low-pressure line is currently near its usual position for this time of year.

This afternoon, most parts of the country will be generally cloudy. There may be light to moderate rain, along with thunder and lightning, in some hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, and in a few other places as well.

There is also a chance of heavy rain in one or two hilly areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

Tonight, hilly areas — including those in Koshi Province — are expected to stay mostly cloudy, while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in some parts of Koshi Province and a few other places.

The Department has also warned that windstorms may occur in some areas of the Terai, especially in Koshi and Madhes provinces.
