Interim Minister for Health and Population, Dr. Sudha Gautam, has stated that she will give special priority to mental health during her tenure.
Speaking at the 64th anniversary and general assembly held in Kathmandu on Thursday, she said that she is moving forward by making mental health a key focus. She also mentioned giving special attention to the health of Nepalis working abroad and programs aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality. Minister Gautam emphasized that improving the system would remain one of her main priorities. She added that she aims to strengthen insurance programs, drug regulation, procurement, and supply management.
She said, “I have made mental health a major focus. Thousands of Nepalis go abroad for employment, and their health needs attention. Women’s issues must be addressed by women themselves. Maternal and child mortality is extremely high in four provinces, and I intend to aggressively implement programs to reduce it there. Systemic reform is also a priority. Wherever weaknesses are seen, I will strengthen insurance programs, drug regulation, procurement, and supply.”
Minister Gautam also stated that she aims to prove herself at every stage of life and highlighted that the Nursing Association works for the rights and welfare of nurses.
