Nepali Congress National Assembly member Narayan Datt Bhatt has expressed strong criticism of senior Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Balendra Shah.

Speaking in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Bhatt accused Shah of leading actions on Bhadra 24 that “turned the country to ashes,” and said there is no guarantee that such individuals can improve the country if they become Prime Minister. He also criticized Shah for failing to fulfill his responsibilities as the Mayor of Kathmandu and taking on new roles prematurely.

Bhatt emphasized that it is unjust for those who have not completed one responsibility to seek another, or for individuals who elevate themselves as journalists to become ministers or lawmakers, while disparaging leaders who have sacrificed blood and sweat for the constitution and the nation.

He said, “Those who destroyed the country, what guarantee do they have to change its face? Leaving one responsibility for another, elevating oneself as the biggest journalist and becoming a minister, while denigrating those of us who work day and night for the people and the country, is unacceptable. I want to say to them, just because someone is ‘old’ doesn’t make them right. Inheritances or properties from parents are old? Discard that. Stand on your own feet. Don’t preach over a constitution that others built with their blood. I urge you reform yourselves. This nation and its sovereignty are not anyone’s personal inheritance.”

Bhatt also called for protecting the country from “social media stunts” and warned against leaders using online theatrics to manipulate public perception.
