The minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley dropped by about two degrees Celsius today compared to yesterday.
According to the Weather Forecasting Division, Kathmandu recorded a minimum temperature of 6.5 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am on Thursday. On Wednesday at the same time, the temperature was 8.5 degrees Celsius.
By 8:45 am on Thursday, the temperature increased slightly to 7.5 degrees Celsius. The official minimum temperature is measured at 8:45 am, and experts say the final figure may still change a little.
Meteorologists say that when the minimum temperature falls, mornings feel colder. Clear skies at night allow heat to escape, which lowers morning temperatures. On the other hand, cloudy nights trap heat and keep temperatures warmer.
Maximum temperatures work differently. Clouds during the day block sunlight and reduce daytime heat, while clear skies help temperatures rise.
The Weather Forecasting Division records minimum and maximum temperatures every day across the country, including Kathmandu. The minimum temperature is measured at 8:45 am, and the maximum temperature is measured at 5:45 pm.
