The water level in the Saptakoshi River has risen sharply, forcing authorities to open 27 gates of the Koshi Barrage today.
According to Police Spokesperson Yograj Khatri, the river’s flow reached 207,030 cusecs per second at 11 a.m., crossing the danger mark of 150,000 cusecs. The red warning light has also been activated.
On Tuesday night, the flow was recorded at 182,287 cusecs with 24 gates open. Earlier this month, when water levels surged, up to 38 gates were opened. Officials said continuous rainfall in the hilly areas is the main reason behind the rising water levels.
