Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Prof. Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel has confirmed that the Baneshwor branch of Rastriya Banijya Bank was looted during the Gen-Z protests on September 9.
Poudel revealed that around Rs 50 million in cash and nearly 18 kilograms of gold were stolen from the branch located inside the Parliament building.
He explained that although Nepal Rastra Bank itself was not affected, several government offices were damaged and the state-owned Rastriya Banijya Bank suffered the heaviest loss.
Poudel further noted that, at the time of the unrest, there were widespread concerns about ATMs running dry and digital transactions being disrupted, though those fears did not materialize.
