Birgunj Metropolis has reported losses amounting to around Rs 1.15 billion due to vandalism and arson during last week’s Gen-Z protests. The figure could rise to Rs 1.5 billion as authorities continue assessing damages to ward offices and health facilities, said Chief Administrative Officer Arbind Lal Karna.

Three metropolitan office buildings were completely destroyed, while 17 four-wheelers, nine motorcycles, and two auto rickshaws were also damaged during the unrest.

In a council meeting on Tuesday, Birgunj Metropolitan officials paid tribute to the lives lost in the protests and passed a condolence motion for the bereaved families.

The metropolitan office has also announced plans to revise the fiscal year 2082/83 budget to prioritize the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure.
