Continuous rainfall has triggered landslides, blocking two major highways and leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
In Kalikot, a landslide at Gaganekhola in Shubhakalika-1 has completely cut off the Karnali Highway. The area is known to be highly landslide-prone and has faced repeated blockages in the past. Officials from the Jumla Road Division said clearing the debris will take time.
Similarly, the Narayangadh-Muglin road section in Chitwan was blocked on Tuesday night after a landslide at Tuinkhola in Ichchakamana-5. Although the road was briefly opened, it was blocked again following another slide. Excavators are being used to clear the road, and authorities estimate it may take several hours to fully reopen.
Meanwhile, the Prithvi Highway has also been partially affected, with a landslide at Ghopte Bhir making the road single-lane. However, traffic has resumed in both directions along the Namsi River section of the Narayangadh-Muglin road after debris was cleared.
With rainfall continuing, road authorities have urged passengers to remain cautious as efforts to restore traffic flow are ongoing.
