The Ministry of Finance has formed a three-member task force to explore ways to arrange funds for rebuilding damaged infrastructure from the Gen-Z protests and for the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5 (Fagun 21).
The task force includes Suman Dahal, Head of the Budget and Program Division, Dhaniram Sharma, Head of the Foreign Aid Coordination Division, and Uttarkumar Khatri, Head of the Revenue Management Division.
According to Ministry Spokesperson Tank Prasad Pandey, the team will study how resources can be managed by cutting or adjusting some existing plans and programs in the current budget.
“Elections and reconstruction require funds. The task force has been given the authority to identify areas where savings can be made and to set priorities,” Pandey said.
Newly appointed Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal had earlier announced that politically influenced projects, poorly prepared programs, and scattered plans included in the current fiscal year’s budget would be cut. He also clarified that the government would not introduce a supplementary budget but instead raise about Rs 100 billion by reprioritizing and trimming existing programs.
