From today, vehicles can once again use the BP Highway around the clock, ending months of nighttime travel restrictions imposed due to monsoon-related risks.
The Kavrepalanchok District Administration Office confirmed the decision after a security committee meeting on Monday. Officials said the move aims to ensure smooth travel during the festival season, while maintaining road safety measures.
Nighttime restrictions had been in place since mid-June, between Dhulikhel in Kavre and Nepal Thok in Sindhuli, to minimize dangers from landslides and flooding. The last extension of the ban was scheduled to last until the end of September.
The BP Highway serves as a key route connecting eastern Nepal, with thousands of vehicles using it daily. Large sections of the road were heavily damaged by floods and landslides last year, and permanent reconstruction work is now being advanced in four separate contracts.
