Rabilaxmi Chitrakar, wife of former Prime Minister and senior CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Jhalanath Khanal, is showing gradual improvement after sustaining serious injuries in a house fire during the recent Gen-Z protests.
She is currently undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Kirtipur Hospital, which specializes in burn injuries. Burn specialist Dr. Kiran Nakarmi, who is leading her treatment, confirmed that her condition is better compared to when she was first admitted. “We are doing everything possible. Surgery on her left hand will be performed today, and further treatment will proceed depending on her response,” Dr. Nakarmi said.
According to doctors, Chitrakar suffered severe burns on her left hand and lung complications due to inhalation of toxic gases during the fire. These complications have made anesthesia procedures more challenging.
Former Prime Minister Khanal expressed deep concern, saying, “Doctors are focusing on her lungs and left hand. Harmful gases affected her lungs, and her left hand has severe burns.” He also condemned the incident, calling it a planned criminal and inhumane attack.
Khanal further revealed that evidence of vandalism, arson, and looting at his residence is being gathered and will soon be made public. He also voiced disappointment over inaccurate reports circulated by some domestic and international media.
He has demanded the strongest legal action against those involved in the attack.
