Kathmandu’s minimum temperature has risen for the second day in a row, according to early readings taken since the start of the Nepali month of Magh (mid-January).

The Weather Forecasting Division said the minimum temperature in Kathmandu was recorded at 4.4 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am today (January 16). On the previous day, the temperature at the same time was 4.3 degrees Celsius. Earlier, on Thursday, the early morning temperature had been 3.6 degrees Celsius at 8:45 am.

The final and official minimum temperature for today (Friday) will be recorded at 8:45 am. Meteorologists say this figure is usually lower than the early morning reading taken at 5:45 am.

On January 15, early measurements showed that Kathmandu Valley’s minimum temperature had increased by around 2 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day. Before that, on Wednesday, the early minimum temperature was 2.7 degrees Celsius, which later dropped to 2.3 degrees Celsius when measured at 8:45 am.

The Weather Forecasting Division records minimum and maximum temperatures every day across the country, including Kathmandu. The minimum temperature is officially measured at 8:45 am, while the maximum temperature is recorded at 5:45 pm.

According to meteorologists, cloud cover during the night helps keep temperatures slightly warmer in the morning, while clear skies usually cause the temperature to drop.
