Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has reaffirmed that the House of Representatives election slated for March 5 will proceed as planned, dismissing ongoing speculation about a possible postponement.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new administrative building of Bharatpur Metropolitan City on Friday, Dahal said elections are the backbone of democracy and must be held on time. Recalling past experiences, he noted that similar rumours had circulated even during the first Constituent Assembly election, but the polls were ultimately conducted as scheduled.
Commenting on the recent special general convention of the Nepali Congress, Dahal acknowledged that internal divisions within a major political party were a serious and concerning development. However, he stressed that such developments would not affect the election process.
Dahal also praised Bharatpur Metropolitan City for its comprehensive development efforts, describing the city as an emerging model for the rest of the country.
On the occasion, Bharatpur Mayor Renu Dahal informed that the newly inaugurated six-storey administrative building was constructed at a cost of Rs 533.2 million on seven kattha (25,500 square feet) of land.
