The government has set aside Rs 211.17 billion for the education sector in the upcoming financial year. This funding will be managed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel announced the budget during a presentation in the Federal Parliament.
Out of the total budget, Rs 10.19 billion will go towards the school mid-day meal program to continue providing nutritious food to students. The government also plans to merge schools where needed, to use resources more effectively.
Scholarship programs for students from the Musahar, Dalit, and other marginalized communities will continue without any changes. Scholarships for medical education will focus on helping students from poor and remote areas.
Universities will receive funding based on their needs. However, those that do not follow the rules may get less financial support.
Last year, the government had allocated Rs 203.66 billion to the education sector. This year’s increase shows the government’s ongoing commitment to making education more inclusive and accountable in Nepal.
