Nepal has approved three new power transmission lines, including the 400 kV Nalgad-Maintada project, to expand and modernize the national grid.

The government has authorized the construction of three new power transmission lines this fiscal year to strengthen Nepal’s national grid. The 75-kilometer-long 400 kV Nalgad-Maintada line, part of the Bheri Corridor, will transmit up to 2,400 megawatts of electricity and will be developed by the National Transmission Grid Company.
Likewise, the 33 kV Khorunga Khola and Super Sardi Khola transmission lines, measuring 4.38 and 3.68 kilometers respectively, will supply a combined 7.7 megawatts of power from hydropower plants to the national system.
According to the Department of Electricity Development, the government has so far approved 274 transmission line projects of various capacities and granted survey permits for eight new lines, including the Mid-Chamelia, Dudh Koshi Fifth, and Samundratar-Lapsiphedi projects. An additional 21 applications for new survey permits are currently under review.
