A total of 126 families from the Dalit communities in Bariyarpatti Rural Municipality–3, Siraha, have received gas stoves along with cylinders, pipes, and lighters. These families belong to the Chamar, Dom, and Sufi groups and live in economically challenging conditions.
The local ward office distributed the cooking sets using a budget of Rs 10 lakh. According to Ward Chairperson Binod Kumar Yadav, the main goal of this initiative is to make kitchens smoke-free and ease the lives of daily wage workers in the community.
Residents like Bindadevi Ram from the Chamar tole expressed great relief upon receiving the gas stove. “Now we won’t have to sit in smoke anymore,” she shared happily.
The ward has also planned to continue this program next year with another Rs 10 lakh budget. The next phase will target the Mandal and Mukhiya families, with the goal of eventually providing gas stoves to all Dalit households in the ward.
Earlier, the ward office had installed stoves in 99 homes in the Musahar settlement of Ramapur Pipra and Tilaiya using a Rs 9 lakh budget during the fiscal year 2080–81.
