A video shared on social media on Wednesday morning has caused a big reaction. In the video, some municipal police officers in Kathmandu are seen stopping and mistreating a garbage collector who was riding his bicycle. The incident happened around 8 am in Baluwatar, Kathmandu Metropolitan City ward no 4.
After the video spread quickly online, people were upset and demanded action. Many said that workers who help keep the city clean should be treated with respect.
KMC responded by firing the officers involved. Metropolitan Police Chief Rajunath Pandey confirmed that the officers were removed from their jobs because of their bad behavior. The official statement did not give their names or say how many officers were involved.
“The city will not accept such behavior, especially towards people who work hard to keep our streets clean,” KMC said.
The video has started a larger conversation online about how sanitation workers are treated, with many people standing up for their rights and dignity.
