Gagan Thapa Pledges a New Approach to Raising Madhesh Issues in Parliament

Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa has said that he will raise the issues of Madhesh in Parliament in a different way.

Speaking at a program held in Kathmandu on Saturday, Thapa said that as a candidate representing Sarlahi constituency No. 4, the issues of Madhesh and Sarlahi will now be raised in the federal parliament and Singha Durbar in a new manner. He also pledged that voters of Sarlahi-4 would not have any reason to regret their choice. According to him, the way Madhesh-related issues are discussed and decided in Parliament over the next five years will be different from previous years.

Thapa said that due to party responsibilities he may not always be able to stay in Sarlahi, but assured voters of his full commitment and trustworthiness. He urged party leaders and cadres to actively engage in the election campaign and cautioned against underestimating opponents by assuming one’s own candidate is strong. Emphasizing that winning an election requires collective effort, he instructed voters and party workers to campaign with trust, affection, and confidence.

He said, “I represent Sarlahi-4. The issues of Sarlahi will be raised forcefully in Parliament. They will be discussed in Singha Durbar. Madhesh issues will be discussed as well. This happened before too, it’s not that it didn’t, but now it will be done differently. People have come to us with trust, and we must send them back with love, respect, and confidence. Because of my party responsibilities, I have limited time and must travel to many places beyond Kathmandu and Sarlahi, so I cannot stay in the constituency all the time. But I want to assure you of one thing: not a single voter in Sarlahi-4 will ever feel that voting for Gagan Thapa with the tree symbol was a mistake. In the next five years, the way Madhesh issues are raised, discussed, and decided in Kathmandu’s Parliament and Singha Durbar will be different from the past. I will represent the constituency in a different way. You must work hard, it is an election. Never assume your candidate is strong and others are weak.”

Thapa also said that he would only promise what he can deliver and would clearly say from the beginning if something is not possible. He added that even after the election, voters would be able to meet him easily.
