The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has expelled seven of its leaders for going against the party’s official decisions ahead of the general elections on March 5.
According to the party, these leaders either ran as candidates themselves or supported and campaigned for other candidates without party approval. Party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Co-Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal announced the action by citing Article 106 of the party’s statute, which allows the party to remove members for breaking discipline.
Those expelled include Haribol Gajurel and Maheshwar Dahal from Sindhuli. Haribol Gajurel had earlier served as Prachanda’s chief advisor when he was prime minister. Kul Prasad KC from Dang has also been expelled. In Dang-2, former Lumbini Chief Minister Metmani Chaudhary is said to have faced internal rebellion.
Other leaders removed from the party are Major Rai from Udayapur-2, and Dharmanath Sah, Rajkumari Sah, and Jibcha Sah from Siraha.
The NCP has warned its members not to contest elections against official party candidates or support rival candidates. The party said such actions go against party discipline and will not be tolerated in the future.
