Gadtaula and Thapa Take Oath as Heads of Justice Commissions

Leela Devi Gadtaula and Mahesh Thapa have taken the oath of office and secrecy as the new heads of Nepal's two transitional justice commissions.

Gadtaula is now the chair of the Commission on Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP), while Thapa heads the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut administered their oaths today at the Supreme Court.

Afterward, both chairs swore in the members of their respective commissions.

The CIEDP formed under Gadtaula includes Gopalnath Yogi, Agni Prasad Thapaliya, Sirjana Pokhrel and Binita Nepali.

The TRC formed under Thapa includes Achut Prasad Bhandari, Tika Prasad Dhakal, Padam Bahadur Shahi and Kumari Kaushalya Ojha.

The government appointed them on May 15, based on recommendations under the amended Disappeared Persons Enquiry, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act, 2014.
