A key bridge connecting Ward 1 and Ward 4 of Banepa Municipality in Kavrepalanchowk has collapsed, completely disrupting traffic flow to and from Kathmandu Valley.

The bridge, built in 1980 (around 45 years ago), broke down early Saturday morning when heavy trucks carrying books tried to cross. Local resident Shanta Lal Shrestha said the bridge gave way under the weight of the vehicles, causing the entire road section to shut down.

This route, connecting Chyamsing of Bhaktapur to Nala of Kavre is commonly used as an alternative entry point to Kathmandu from eastern Nepal. With the collapse, all vehicle movement in the area has stopped.

The Banepa Traffic Office has asked drivers not to use this route, and vehicles heading toward Kathmandu from Banepa have been halted there.

Police Inspector Sunil Dhaju said efforts are ongoing in coordination with the road division office and local authorities to find a temporary solution and resume traffic as soon as possible.
