Funeral Procession of Bipin Joshi Begins in Kanchanpur

The funeral procession of Bipin Joshi, the Nepali student killed in the Hamas attack in Israel, has begun in Bhimdatt Municipality, Kanchanpur. The procession, attended by the Israeli Ambassador to Nepal and local residents, is heading toward Bhujela Ghat on the banks of the Mahakali River, where Joshi will be cremated with full national honours.

According to DSP Sagar Bohara, spokesperson for the Kanchanpur District Police Office, the final rites will be performed in accordance with Hindu traditions. The Armed Police Force is set to present a ceremonial salute in Joshi’s honor.

Joshi, who had gone to Israel for his studies, was abducted during the Hamas assault on October 7, 2023. His death was confirmed by Israeli authorities earlier this month after his body was handed over following a prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas.

His remains were brought to Nepal from Israel on Monday and flown to Dhangadhi by a Nepali Army Sky Truck. Upon arrival, the army paid tribute before handing over the body to his family. Later, the Israeli Ambassador and officials visited Joshi’s home to express condolences to the grieving family.
