After a daring prison escape, former state minister Sanjay Sah (Takla) has been recaptured by police.

The arrest took place on Thursday by a team from the Mangaltar Area Police Office in Kavre. Authorities are coordinating with the Kathmandu Police to transfer him back to the capital.

Inspector Dinesh Bahadur Kunwar of the District Police Office, Kavre, said that so far, 17 prisoners from Nakhkhu Jail and 2 from Sindhuli who had escaped have been arrested.

Takla had been serving a 12-year prison sentence for his conviction in the Janakpur bomb blast case. He was also a lawmaker from the Madhesi People’s Rights Forum and Sadbhawana Party, and faces allegations related to the murder of Janakpur media entrepreneur Arun Singhaniya.

He escaped from prison on Wednesday after protesters began vandalizing the facility, but police acted quickly to apprehend him.
