The Election Commission has held discussions with political parties regarding the upcoming National Assembly elections scheduled for Magh 11.

 

The meeting took place at the Commission’s office in Kantipath, attended by Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, other commissioners, and representatives from major political parties including Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and CPN (Maoist Centre).

 

According to the Commission’s Secretary Mahadev Pantha, the election schedule will be announced after completing technical preparations and consultations with the parties.

 

As per the legal provision, the National Assembly election must be held 35 days before the end of the members’ tenure. The term of 19 members will expire on Fagun 21, out of which 18 members will be elected, while one member will be nominated by the President.

 

The electoral college for the election will include provincial assembly members and mayors/chairpersons and their deputies from local levels. Each provincial assembly member’s vote will carry a weight of 48, while the vote weight for mayors/chairpersons and their deputies will be 18.
