The High Court in Tulsipur, Butwal, has scheduled a hearing today in the case against Rastriya Swatantra Party (Raswapa) chairman Ravi Lamichhane and former Gorkha Media director Chhabilal Joshi, who are in custody on charges of cooperative fraud and organized crime.

The case drew renewed attention last week after a bench of Judges Om Prakash Aryal and Tejnarayan Paudel ordered the submission of a copy of Lamichhane’s main case, prompting further discussions. According to Ram Bahadur Kunwar, spokesperson of the High Court, today’s hearing marks the next procedural step.

Lamichhane, who has been in pretrial detention, had previously attempted to deposit his share of the misappropriated funds in the cooperative. However, the Rupandehi District Court, led by Judge Narayan Sapkota, denied his release on Shrawan 26. Following this, Lamichhane filed an appeal with the High Court on Bhadra 9.

In the Supreme Cooperative Fraud case, the total embezzled amount has been recorded at NPR 10.99 crore. Lamichhane submitted a bank guarantee of NPR 2.74 crore, representing his portion of the total liability.

Today’s hearing is being closely watched, as it could influence the next developments in one of the country’s most high-profile cooperative fraud and organized crime cases.
