As preparations intensify for the March 5 House of Representatives elections, the Election Commission has held an orientation programme for national election observer organisations, focusing on ensuring credible and well-managed polls.
The programme covered key aspects of election management, including polling centres, vote counting and the election timetable, as well as the Election Code of Conduct and constitutional provisions related to the HoR and the electoral system. Officials also clarified the roles and responsibilities of election observers.
Speaking at the event, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari and other senior officials stressed that observers must have a clear understanding of Nepal’s Constitution and electoral laws, and submit reports covering pre-election, election-day and post-election activities.
Observers were instructed to strictly follow the Code of Conduct, remain neutral, avoid misuse of vehicle passes and not interfere with the duties of election officials.
A total of 37 national and three international observer organisations have been authorised to monitor the upcoming elections.
