As the House of Representatives election slated for February 21 draws closer, the Election Commission has set constituency-wise limits on election expenses for candidates, with just 61 days left for polls.
Candidates from 26 geographically difficult constituencies will be allowed to spend up to Rs 3.3 million, citing remoteness and terrain challenges. These include districts such as Taplejung, Solukhumbu, Dolakha, Kavrepalanchok, Makwanpur and others.
For accessible areas, the spending ceiling is lower. Candidates from Kathmandu-1, 3, 6, 7 and 8 will have the minimum limit of Rs 2.5 million. Meanwhile, several constituencies including parts of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Parsa and Kaski have been allowed up to Rs 2.7 million.
The Commission has set a Rs 2.9 million cap for candidates in 65 constituencies and Rs 3.1 million for 52 constituencies.
To promote transparency, all candidates must manage election expenses through bank or financial institution accounts.
