Buddha Air Plane Goes Past Runway While Landing at Bhadrapur

Buddha Air ATR-72 aircraft met with an accident at Bhadrapur Airport on Friday night at around 9:10 pm while it was landing. The flight, which was coming to Bhadrapur from Kathmandu with call sign 901, went about 300 meters beyond the runway and stopped after sinking into grass and soft ground on the eastern side of the runway, according to the Jhapa District Police Office.


There were 51 passengers, four crew members, and one aircraft engineer on board the plane. Seven people were injured in the incident, including 24-year-old co-pilot Sushant Shrestha of Lalitpur. The co-pilot suffered injuries to his head and face and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The other six injured passengers were treated for minor injuries and later discharged.


Soon after the accident, a rescue team of 70 police personnel led by Superintendent of Police Rajan Limbu was deployed at the airport. All passengers were safely taken out of the aircraft, and the injured were immediately taken to Omsai Pathibhara Hospital in Bhadrapur for treatment.
