Tensions have flared within the Nepali Congress after the party’s two general secretaries announced a special general convention, suspending the schedule of the regular convention.
Amid the growing rift, party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has called senior leaders for urgent consultations at his Maharajgunj residence, seeking to defuse the situation ahead of a Central Working Committee meeting.
The dispute began after General Secretaries Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Gagan Thapa on Thursday declared a special general convention, a move swiftly rejected by the establishment faction as unacceptable.
Although Deuba had earlier entrusted Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka with party responsibilities following the Gen-Z movement, he stepped in as tensions escalated, summoning top leaders for talks in an effort to find a way forward and restore internal unity.
