The Election Commission (EC) has given election symbols to political parties taking part in the proportional representation (PR) system for the House of Representatives election on March 5, 2026.
The Commission registered the parties on Friday and assigned their symbols. Assistant Election Officer Yagya Prasad Bhattarai said that although 100 parties applied for the PR system, many wanted the same symbols. As a result, 93 unique symbols were finalized.
The Commission said that serial numbers and symbols were given based on the votes parties received in the 2079 BS House of Representatives election. New parties got symbols according to the order in which they registered.
The first seven symbols assigned are: number one, sun, five-pointed star, bell, plow, umbrella, and loudspeaker. Other symbols include a plane, flat platform, single eye, bicycle, bowl, glass, stick, open eye, hoe, folded hands, rooster, water jug, paw print, well, head, sickle and star, lotus flower, guitar, house, and sickle, among others.
Some symbols are shared by multiple parties. For example, the Nepal Sanghiya Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Ekta Party Nepal, and Nepal Janajagruti Party all have the bus symbol. Similarly, the Rastriya Mukti Party Nepal, Janata Samajwadi Party, and Nagarik Unmukti Party Nepal all have the chakki (millstone) symbol.
