Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s government is set to add four new ministers to the cabinet on Friday, according to sources from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Kumar Ingnam is likely to become Minister of Land, Madhav Chamlagain will lead the Ministry of Forests and Environment, Rajendra Singh Bhandari will take charge of Labour and Culture, and Shraddha Shrestha will oversee the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens.
A staff member at the President’s Office confirmed that a formal request for their swearing-in has already been sent to the President. Current Minister of Land Reform, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation Anil Kumar Sinha is expected to move to another ministry, possibly Tourism. The President’s Office has also received this change request.
Right now, PM Karki’s cabinet has 10 ministers. With the four new appointments, it will grow to 14 members. Originally, Karki planned to keep the cabinet at 10, but operational challenges led to the expansion. For comparison, the previous government had a 25-member cabinet, including three state ministers.
