Stating that an election date shift would not affect the political process, Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma has said that moving the upcoming polls to Baisakh would be “natural and acceptable.”
Sharma noted that although the government has fixed Falgun 21 as the election date, extending it to Baisakh would help strengthen trust among Gen Z protesters, create a more reliable election environment, and ease voting in Himalayan regions.
Posting on Facebook, he wrote that postponing the polls slightly would be reasonable if it supports inclusion, credibility, and accessibility. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure a smooth political journey through cooperation and consensus,” he added.
Sharma also welcomed the agreement between the government and the Gen Z movement but expressed dissatisfaction that political parties were not included in the negotiation process. He stressed that the government must act responsibly during the implementation phase.
