Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has officially handed over the responsibility of acting president to the party’s Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, citing health concerns.

During Friday’s Central Working Committee meeting held at the party’s headquarters in Sanepa, Deuba announced that Khadka would take charge until his recovery.
“My health condition has made it difficult to continue regular duties,” Deuba said at the meeting. “I have appointed Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka as acting president, and I am confident he will work for the broader interest of the party.”

This marks Deuba’s first public appearance since the Gen-Z protests. Addressing the meeting, he claimed that Nepal’s constitution is under threat, alleging that the dissolution of the House of Representatives was unconstitutional and undemocratic.

Deuba also criticized the government’s decision to hold elections on March 5, saying that the conditions for a free, fair, and fearless election have not yet been created.
“The government has announced the election date, but the environment for holding elections is still not ready,” he said.
