Delhi witnessed another grim winter morning on Monday as thick smog engulfed the city and air quality stayed in the ‘severe’ category for the third consecutive day. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 457 early morning, with several areas touching the maximum level of 500, indicating extremely dangerous pollution levels.

Visibility dropped sharply across the capital, falling to as low as 50 metres at Indira Gandhi International Airport, prompting flight delay advisories. Areas including Ashok Vihar, Jahangirpuri, Rohini and Wazirpur were among the worst affected, while most monitoring stations reported ‘severe’ or ‘severe-plus’ air quality.

Experts attribute the worsening pollution to unfavourable weather conditions, including very low wind speed and the absence of rain, which have trapped pollutants near the ground. With no immediate relief in sight, residents continue to face hazardous air and poor visibility across the city.
