The Election Commission has set 4:00 pm today as the deadline for candidates to withdraw their names from political parties’ closed lists under the proportional representation (PR) system for the upcoming House of Representatives election.
The closed lists were submitted by political parties on December 28 and 29, and candidates seeking withdrawal may do so within the stipulated time. The EC said it will inform the concerned party of any withdrawal, after which the party may submit a replacement candidate.
According to the commission, the closed lists will be published on January 18 for claims and objections, with the final list to be released on February 3.
A total of 64 political parties submitted closed lists containing 3,424 candidates for 110 PR seats. Of these, 54 parties will use their own election symbols, while 10 will contest under a common symbol.
