Amid growing tensions within the party, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba said on Tuesday that there are attempts to divide the party through a special general convention, but he assured that the party will stay united.
Speaking to party leaders and workers this morning, Deuba said, “They have tried to divide the party, but it will not split. I am confident of that.”
He added that he would make decisions after the closed-session meeting of the special general convention faction. Leaders from the party’s main (establishment) faction also met Deuba earlier today, where he emphasized that the special general convention is not legitimate.
The convention is being led by General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma. Closed sessions are starting today, and the organizers say most representatives are attending.
